Visiting The Dentist Can Be A Walk On The Beach!

Sedation dentistry can have a bunch of benefits for your little surfer!

Overcome Fears

Sedation dentistry is a type of treatment that helps your child build up trust in the dentist and dental treatments, helping them to overcome obstacles and establish healthy, long-term dental habits.

Relax

If your child is anxious about their dentist appointment, you may want to consider using sedation. This will help them stay calm and focused throughout the visit so that they can get through it more smoothly.

Complete Treatment

If your child has a hard time during dental appointments, using sedation options may allow our pediatric dentists to finish more procedures in one session and lessen the number of follow-ups.

What Kinds Of Sedation Options Are There?

The best type of treatment for your child is the one that works wonders for them!

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, sometimes known as laughing gas, is a mild kind of sedation.

It’s given through a nosepiece to make your little surfer feel more comfortable throughout their treatment. Sedation levels may vary based on your child’s state of relaxation.

When you use nitrous oxide, your child will be awake and able to communicate and/or follow the dentist’s directions during the procedure.

General Anesthesia

Anesthesia, specifically general anesthesia, is a powerful sedative administered by an anesthesiologist. Although it might be required for your little surfer’s visit, the following factors are what determine this:

  • Their needs
  • The extent of the process
  • The services needed
  • Their age

We will never leave your child unsupervised and they will be safe at all times while under our care. They also won’t remember the procedure after it’s done.

How safe is sedation dentistry?

We only work with licensed anesthesiologists who are MD’s because we take safety seriously. They will constantly monitor your child and make any changes necessary to ensure their comfort. Your child’s well-being is always our top priority, which is why we follow sedation guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry to a tee.

How much does sedation dentistry cost?

The total price varies depending on the kind of sedative used, how many treatments are needed, and if your insurance plan covers the procedure.

Our friendly team would be happy to figure out possible payment options and generate a fee estimate for you. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to your local Smile Surfers office with any questions!

How long will my child feel the effects of nitrous oxide?

The moment we finish, we’ll shut off the laughing gas and its effects will start to wear off immediately. In most cases it just takes a minute or two, though in some instances it could take up to half an hour.

After their appointment, your little surfer will most likely be able to return to school!
